The first session with a student consists of initial reading, writing, or math assessments. The results from these assessments, along with feedback from the parents and the students' teachers, will guide instruction. This helps to create tailored lessons based on the student’s needs and interests.

Tutoring Sessions

Erica’s multi-sensory tutoring sessions target:

  • Reading (phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary development, and comprehension)

  • Writing (handwriting, sentence structure, grammar rules, planning, drafting, and revising written work)

  • Math (from foundational skills like number sense and basic addition and subtraction to more advanced skills such as word problems and working with larger numbers)

Materials

Erica provides the following materials from various effective curriculums for tutoring sessions:

  • Books, folders, notebooks, pencils

  • Worksheets 

  • Interactive games

  • Online programs (when appropriate)

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Oftentimes, a school or teacher will recommend that a child needs some additional academic support outside of school for a given subject or area. Sometimes, a parent will notice that their child needs additional support. This can be to boost confidence, or to help a child meet benchmarks that they are not on track for. This is where Erica comes in! She provides individualized support, outside of school, to help students gain confidence and meet their academic goals in a given subject area.

  • Erica has been an elementary school teacher in Manhattan for the past ten years. She is also the parent of three young children. Erica’s professional background, combined with her personal experience as a mom, enable her to be approachable, engaging, and creative. She understands the academic demands of both private and public elementary schools in New York. She is able to form trusting relationships with her students, in order to support their skill growth.
